Torcare Ltd


1. To assume management responsibility for the day-to-day support and welfare of the residents in accordance with Torcare Ltd.’s policies and relevant legislation.

2. To ensure the effective and efficient deployment of staff. This will include “hands on” care, working with the care team.

3. To take the lead in overseeing all activities of all care staff on a day-to-day basis and to ensure that all staff time is being utilised effectively.

4. In conjunction with the Health & Safety Manager, to be jointly responsible for the health & safety of service users and all staff and the security of the buildings and its contents.

5. To ensure that a high standard of hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness is maintained in the care home. This may involve assisting residents to undertake cleaning tasks or doing such tasks on their behalf, where appropriate and where necessary.

6. To ensure ‘Key Workers’ are undertaking all of their ‘key worker’ duties and maintaining residents’ files and accurately recording in those files as appropriate, following the required standards and requirements of CQC.

7. To take the lead in formulating the staffing rotas.

8. To continue to develop the computerisation of residents’ care plans and The Old Vicarage systems for administration in line with the standards required by Care Quality Commission (CQC). To demonstrate a high level of competency in respect of accurate and concise record keeping in all residents’ care plans, risk assessments and daily evaluation records.

9. To actively assist in the assessment process for prospective new residents and in the compilation of detailed care plans, history profiles for new residents’, prior to moving in.

10. To process detailed and concise completed Accident/Near Miss forms and to recommend further action/adjustments to systems or procedures in response to the incident.

11. To participate in regular staff supervisions; annual appraisals and to contribute to regular staff/team meetings.

12. To assist in the organisation of the induction and training of staff and to identify any specific training needs and to feedback to Staff Training & Development Manager to follow up.

13. To assist in the recruitment and interviewing of new staff as and when appropriate and required.

14. To be flexible in working hours including weekends and nights as required.

15. To participate in the out of hours ‘on call’ system.



1. To establish and maintain easy ways for residents to participate as fully as possible in the running of their home. This should include regular ‘residents’ house meetings.

2. To implement and oversee professional practices which promote residents’ to be as independent as they are able to in all aspects of their lives.

3. To provide social, emotional and practical support to all residents within your care. Ensure they receive a service commensurate with their individual needs. Meet with individual residents on a regular basis to discuss their support needs and their future goals and aspirations.

4. To assess and monitor risk assessment policies throughout the service and to adjust procedures as appropriate in order to maintain safe methods of working.

5. Assess the needs and skills of the residents in terms of their leisure and other social and daytime activities. Ensure that residents’ have access to resources as appropriate. To encourage residents to take up these activities, participating in them as necessary.

6. To ensure that all of the residents receive primary and other healthcare which meets their assessed needs. To monitor residents’ medication, when required and appropriate and to liaise with all appropriate and relevant health workers/ support agencies and professionals.

7. To participate in regular reviews for the residents’ and to ensure ‘Keyworkers’ are implementing resident reviews in a timely fashion.

8. To preserve and enhance the rights of residents in the service, ensuring that good professional practice is maintained at all times.

9. Attempt to resolve any conflicts that may arise between residents and to report and record events to General Manager when additional support is required.

10. To respect confidentiality of information on residents’ and staff and to keep all records concise, timely, accurate and appropriate, following CQC guidance on record keeping. To act as a ‘Role Model’ for all staff in respect of record keeping.

11. To support residents in their individual personal care.



1. To liaise with other staff, residents’, volunteers, advocates/relatives and other agencies.

2. To build professional relationships with key people, particularly relatives and professionals from other agencies.

3. Ensure at all times that other members of the staff team are aware of relevant issues/concerns about residents and other areas of work.

4, Ensure that the service complies with the operational policy in line with Torcare company policies and procedures.

5. To represent Torcare to statutory agencies, other organisations and individuals as agreed with the Registered Manager.



1. Under the direction of the General Manager, to assist in developing the strategic direction of the care service.

2. To undertake training as necessary and to liaise with Training Manager if it has been identified that there is a specific identified training need.

3. To act at all times in accordance with Torcare Ltd.’s aims, philosophy and policies.

4. This job description is not exhaustive and therefore different or additional duties may be required as the service develops.

5. To administer prescribed medication in accordance with the Care Quality Commission and Royal Pharmaceutical Standards.
