Job Summary

As a Service Manager, you will lead and manage Nudawn Housing and Support Services placements in the South West region. Your role will be to provide professional support, advice and supervision to Support Workers and Area Managers, ensuring a quality service is delivered to young people and families.

Lead, manage and motivate staff to provide a caring, supportive and nurturing environment where young people can feel secure and free from harm.

This exciting opportunity will allow the ideal candidate to lead to initial registration with Ofsted, set up new units, recruit, and deliver line management responsibilities.

Ensure high-quality care and support which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and cultural needs of children and young people within the care of Nudawn Housing and Support Services, working from the guidelines from the 1989 Children’s Act, Every Child Matters, and any other relevant legislation.

Ensure support plans, risks assessments and action plans for all young people are reviewed, monitored and kept up to date.

You will be responsible for developing your team and delivering results. You will work in partnership with other agencies and our commissioned services to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children and families with whom we work.

● Support with coordinating all recruitment activity for Nudawn Housing and Support Services Housing and Support Services provisions.

● Manage and coordinate the induction process for all new starters.

● Ensure an effective settling-in programme for all young people new to the provision.

● Overseeing all move in and move-outs and weekly monitoring across all placements.

● Liaise and maintain good relationships with external providers and stakeholders through the placement cycle.

● Attend and actively contribute to professionals’ meetings, including LAC, MAPPA, STRAT, and placement planning meetings.

● Be an advocate for Nudawn Housing and Support Services at various platforms.

● Manage all service delivery to ensure it is in accordance with Nudawn Housing and Support Services’ contractual and legal obligations and that all service activities meet legislative/regulatory requirements.

● Communicate effectively with other agencies and professionals and proactively prepare written reports when required.

● Ensure a reliable and consistent presence within all Nudawn Housing and Support Services Housing provisions daily.

● Effective management of the rota, annual leave, sickness absence management, capability and all other formal staffing matters as and when they arise

● Establishing positive relationships with young people and always offering them unconditional and positive support as well as challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding acceptable, pro-social conduct.

● Ensuring that each young person’s pathway plan is followed and amended appropriately to reflect their changing needs.

● Provide a positive role model to offer advice, guidance and assistance where appropriate.

● To support the Directors with regular reviews and updates of company policies and procedures in line with current legislation and delivering training to staff on matters as such.

● Ensuring overall responsibility for all duties associated with running the accommodation is completed to a high standard.

● Lead engagement with internal and external stakeholders and build collaborative relationships to improve communication and ensure delivery of the business plan and strategic objectives.

● The post holder will be expected to work Monday to Friday (8 am -5 pm) and be available for out-of-hours support.

Key Responsibilities

Young People

● Ensure that any matters relating to child protection and safeguarding are managed in line with current legislation, national standards and best safeguarding practice.

● Maintain the highest possible standards of support and care and ensure that each young person’s agreed placement plan is fully implemented.

● Co-ordinate and access the appropriate services (physical and mental health, education, employment, financial) to ensure the needs of each young person are met.

● To carry out and conduct Mentoring Sessions with Young People where necessary.

● Positive Behaviour systems implemented and upheld for all support workers to promote a nurturing environment for young people.

Leadership

● Provide leadership and coaching in best practices within placements to ensure the best outcomes for young people.

● Mentor and support the Area Manager(s), team leaders, and Senior and Support Workers in providing the best practices.

● Mentor and support staff in developing the young people’s independent living skills.

● Ensure that the organisation’s company policies and procedures are implemented appropriately.

● Communicate information effectively with the Nudawn Housing Support Services directors

● The ability to identify and fulfil underlying potential to bring long-term benefit to Nudawn Housing and Support Services and the individual.

● Lead and uphold professional conduct and staff at all times

Placement Management

● Complete Expressions of interest on time

● Attend placement meetings, Looked After Child Reviews and any other relevant meetings with multi agencies

● Ensure all reports required by Stakeholders are sent within timescales and are completed to high standards. i.e weekly, monthly, incident reports

● To achieve the best outcomes for all young people, ensure that placements are managed effectively and efficiently.

● Ensure that staff are focused on providing the best possible outcomes for young people.

● Make sure that best practice is maintained within placements.

● Monitor and report to directors any repair work required around placements

● Sustain and develop the administration systems and recording systems so that a warm and caring home environment is maintained.

● Manage the houses within the agreed budget, taking full responsibility for all incidental and direct costs, such as repairs to the property and appliances.

● Effectively manage the placements’ devolved budget and ensure full financial reports are updated.

● To attend and conduct regular meetings with our young people

● Act as the safeguarding lead for sites under your remit, taking appropriate precautions and remedial steps as and when required.

Team Management

● Supervise and support staff, ensuring that individual staff members are developed appropriately to meet the specific needs of the young people in the home.

● Develop individual staff training programmes in line with company plans and needs and supervise/provide observations for staff through their NVQ Level 3 Award (Health and Social Care – Children and Young People).

● Complete Monthly supervision with staff members.

● Complete probationary and annual performance appraisals for all staff to ensure that they can continue to provide appropriate levels of care and support.

● Rota Management – ensuring adequate shift cover and that rostering systems are accurate

● Run weekly and monthly payrolls

● Undertake On Call Duties

● The ability and desire to manage, lead and inspire a team consistently to exceed Nudawn Housing and Support Services’ objectives.

● Undertake any other duties that may be required.

Health & Safety

● To implement the Health & Safety policies and ensure that all staff are aware of all Health & Safety procedures.

● To undertake risk assessments as appropriate.

● Managing Risk and Young People with Different Needs.

● Ensure that all incidents/accidents are recorded and reported according to procedures.

● To ensure that the cleanliness and hygiene of the houses are maintained to an exceptional standard.

● To undertake fire drills and tests the following procedure and record the necessary data.

Essential

Work Experience

● Experience working with children and adolescents.

● A minimum of 5 years experience in social work with children and families at risk

● A track record of highly effective practice management or supervisory experience

● A demonstrable experience of being a practice educator with the skills to continuously monitor, manage, develop and improve team and individual performance.

Qualifications

● NVQ Level 5 in Leadership & Management for Children and Young People and worked within the sector at a Senior Level

● 5 GCSEs including English and Maths or equivalent

● A 2.2 Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
